Vanlue Residents Will Likely See School Replacement Levy This Fall
7/3/18 – 6:45 A.M.
Residents in the Vanlue school district will likely see a replacement levy on the ballot in November. The Vanlue school board approved placing a $325,000 emergency levy in front of voters during a meeting this week.
An emergency levy’s millage rate changes as property values go up or down. That means the amount of revenue can change over the course of the levy. The school board doesn’t know the new millage rate just yet.
Voters approved the levy in 2009. At that time the millage rate was 10.6 mills.
The current levy doesn’t expire until 2020. Board president Jonathan Thomas says putting the measure on the ballot now gives the board plenty of time to communicate with the public.
