Seneca County Commissioners Talk About Economic Development

The Seneca County Commissioners saw the first draft of a new contract with the Seneca Industrial and Economic Development Corporation this week. SIEDC President David Zak calls the document a good starting point. If approved, the deal would see the county pay $116,000 to the SIEDC each year for work on economic development. The county currently pays $67,000.

Commissioner Mike Kerschner says he would like to see the extra money go toward hiring someone to focus on development in villages and townships. Zak said he was open to the idea but couldn’t speak for the SIEDC board.

Commissioner Shayne Thomas called for the SIEDC to focus more on development outside of Tiffin during a meeting last month. During the Tuesday meeting, he outlined points to help push that idea along. They include yearly communication with each village and township as well as revitalizing the downtown areas in villages.
